Do overwhelming feelings of fear and terror consume you, throwing you into treacherous panic attacks for no apparent reason? Are you sick and tired of having to worry about having another one? Do you hate the feelings of vulnerability and helplessness you get when you are having a panic attack?
If any of this sounds like you, you must have hope. You do not have to live like this – you can do something about it. You can avoid having panic attacks if you work at it.
Avoiding panic attacks is much more easily said than done, though. The first step is figuring out what exactly causes your attacks. Panic attacks are typically linked to having anxiety, which can be caused by a number of things.
Stress is usually a key cause of anxiety. The higher your stress levels, the more anxious you become, and the chances of having a panic attack increases. If you start to feel stressed or know that a stressful situation is approaching, try to alleviate the stress. If you can avoid the stress, then you can avoid the feelings of anxiousness, thus avoiding a panic attack.
Depression can be another trigger for anxiety, thus another trigger for panic attacks. When a person is depressed, the feelings of vulnerability and helplessness that are caused by panic attacks are also common in those suffering from depression.
If you are suffering from depression, you may become very stressed or feel very anxious at times, provoking a panic attack. However, if you undergo treatment for your depression (like taking depression medication), then the stress and anxiety created by your depression will also come to a halt, which will end your panic attacks.
Panic attacks can be extremely terrifying. Not only do these attacks affect you, but they also affect the people around you (like family members, friends, co-workers, etc.).
When other people witness you having a panic attack, they become scared as well, for they do not know what to do or how to help you. Those feelings of helplessness and vulnerability you get when having a panic attack seems to rub off on them, for they may feel helpless and vulnerable as well because they cant help you get rid of your problem.
If you’re not sure that you want to help yourself through this, then do it for the people who care about you. Seeing you suffer from panic attacks can cause them pain as well.
However, sometimes merely trying to avoid a panic attack is not enough, and curing the condition altogether is better. If you completely cure your anxiety disorder then you will never have to worry about them again. You do not have to live in constant fear of having a panic attack, and you do not deserve to live like that either. This system is probably your best bet.
